Growing up in a housing commission high rise in the inner Sydney suburb of Waterloo, the James Cook flats on Pitt Street was home for the Pike family. The farthest thing from my mind as a young boy was a career in real estate. Our family had never owned real estate, we didn’t even own a car.
I remember the day I started my real estate career in 1987, I was just 20 years old. With no formal education, married with my first child and buying our first home. I didn’t realise it at the time but I had to succeed or I would be in serious financial trouble.
After convincing Barry Ferguson, a legend in Redcliffe property to hire me, he trained and mentored me in my formative years and helped me establish a foundation of success that is still in place today and I am forever grateful to him. Other real estate greats that have had an impact on me are Neville Pask and Mark Poole, two men that have had incredible property and business success over the past 3 decades.
Twenty seven years on in an industry I love, I can say that things are very different from those formative years. For the past eighteen years I have owned and been the Principal/Licensee of my own residential sales and property management business with Bob Marsellos as my business partner until his recent retirement. In that time the agency has grown to one of the leading agencies in the Moreton Bay region.
